Afternoon tea emerged in the mid-1800s in Britain<\/a> as a way of bridging the gap (for rich folk) between lunch and an evening meal. This explains why you\u2019ll often find it in hotels and other Anglo-Irish style institutions in Dublin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tip: look for a hotel with a great view<\/a>. The view won't cost extra when you're enjoying it with a nice cup of tea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Probably the most iconic hotel in Dublin, frequented by Michael Collins<\/a>, JFK, and Princess Grace. No doubt they demolished some scones, sandwiches, and tea in the stately Lord Mayor\u2019s Lounge, where afternoon tea is described by the Shelbourne management as \u2018a symphony of gentle indulgence\u201d….you can see the Brit influence already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
